The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is now accepting applications for its 2025 intake. This prestigious scholarship offers aspiring professionals from developing countries the opportunity to pursue master’s degrees at renowned institutions worldwide.
About the World Bank Scholarship Program
The JJ/WBGSP is a collaborative initiative between the World Bank and the Government of Japan. It aims to empower future leaders by providing them with advanced education in fields related to economic development and policymaking. For the 2025 academic year, JJ/WBGSP provides scholarships for 41 Participating Master’s Programs at 24 universities located in the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. Fields of study include:

- Infrastructure management

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Nationality: Be a citizen of a World Bank member developing country (check the list of eligible countries).
- Dual Citizenship: Not hold dual citizenship with any developed country.
- Education: Hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least three years prior to the application deadline.
- Employment: Have at least three years of recent, full-time, development-related work experience. Exceptions are made for individuals from fragile or conflict-affected states.
- Health: Be in good health.
- Admission: Be admitted unconditionally (except for financial conditions) to a participating master’s program outside the applicant’s country of citizenship or residence.
Ineligibility:
- Individuals affiliated with the World Bank Group, including Executive Directors and their close relatives.
- Those who previously received a JJ/WBGSP scholarship but did not complete their program.
Scholarship Benefits
The JJ/WBGSP provides comprehensive support to its scholars, including:
- Travel: Economy class airfare between the scholar’s home country and the host university at the start and end of the program, plus a $600 travel allowance per trip.
- Tuition and Fees: Full coverage of tuition and basic medical insurance.
- Living Expenses: A monthly subsistence allowance to cover accommodations, food, and other essentials, varying by host country.
